We are looking for community volunteers from our "Village" to create quilting kits for area quilters to make baby blankets for our Village Memory Boxes. Can you cut fabric in a straight line? Can you tie ribbons? We need you to help.
The premise behind these carefully-curated memory boxes is to gather a Village together to embrace a grief-stricken family who has experienced a stillbirth, known fatal diagnosis, or early infant death. Everything placed within these boxes will come from our community, letting a devastated family know that we are all hurting with them, and that we will companion them through this loss. These are essentials to perinatal loss and bereavement doula support.
These specific quilting kits will be put together September 17 by a group of volunteers so that very skilled quilters can gather in October to sew the quilts. We are making 40 quilts for 40 memory boxes. The fabric will be generously donated by Anna O'Reilly, owner of Brooke'sTreehouse.com in Opelika.
Thank you for wrapping your arms around these families. Join us on September 17 at 9 am at Monarch Estates' Eagles Nest Meeting room, located at the back of Monarch Estates Assisted Living, 1550 E Univeristy Dr, Auburn, AL. A sign up button can be found below!
